Scotland and German Christmas Markets Nov-Dec 2010
We left home on November 25th and arrived in Frankfurt the following morning. We took a trip to downtown Frankfurt and had our first taste of the Christmas Markets. The atmosphere is fantastic and all the stalls are selling Chrismas decorations and food and drink.
The following day we flew over to Edinburgh a great Scottish City with everything and anything happening all the time and with a great Christmas atmosphere. The weather then decided to take a turn for the worse and down came the snow. Edinburgh was transformed into a winter wonderland for us. This was fantastic but for the locals it presented all sorts of problems. The following day we visited my aunt and uncle in Motherwell and had a nice visit. The following day we woke up and the snow had really come down and things were getting more difficult by the minute. We tried to vist my relatives who live near Paisley on the west coast of Scotland and this proved to be impossible. We were disappointed but turned back for safety's sake...I do not have the neccessary driving in snow experience.
We were scheduled to leave for Germany the following day but the airport had closed because of bad weather. The Lufthansa website said the flight was on schedule so we went out to the airport and there in the middle of a snow storm the plane landed loaded us on and we are now back in Germany in the town of Dusseldorf.
We spent this morning visiting all six markets. The town is very pretty and very very cold. We are taking a break at the moment and will risk the elements again tonight for dinner in the Altstad.
I am going to try to post a few pics now but out internet connection is not good so we will see...
