Cuenca Ecuador to Mancora in Peru over the Andes

Here we are in Mancura after an exciting trip over the Andes. We left Cuenca also known in Ecuador as the Athens of the South, a wonderful quaint friendly city. We visited a cloistered convent where the Nuns are never seen. You can buy marmalade and other products from them. You ring a bell and talk to them and they pass the goods through a hole in the wall, very interesting.
Cuenca is where they make Panama Hats... not in Panama as one would presume. If you are interested in the history of the Panama Hat, just Google it for the complete story. The actual name of the hat is a "Montecristi". We toured the factory which was very interesting.
Then on down the "Panamerican Highway" to "Volcana Chimborazo". This is the highest mountain in Ecuador... 6310m high. I tried to get a photo but the weather was overcast.

We stopped at a local Indigenous Quechua village where we sampled a local Guinea Pig dish or should I say Alice sampled it. I watched and sampled a local tea drink with sugar cane alcohol, it was very strong.

We boarded a local bus to take us over the Andes and the bus drivers drive very fast, it was a dirt road that we came dowm and I was grateful to be alive when we got to the bottom. This was the most frightening experience of my life...we live to tell the tale....the scenery was awesome.
Last night and tonight we are in a little thatched cottage near the beach where we are resting for a day.
Tomorrow to Lima, Peru we go....
