Arequipa to Cusco and Ollantaytambo

We took an overnight bus to Cusco. It was long, cold and uneventful. We arrived in Cusco at 6.00am and transferred to our hotel.

A little later we explored the sights of Cusco... lots of historic churches and arches all over the city. On Sunday as we were leaving they were having a celebration in the square. Our guide told us that every Sunday a different school is responsible for presenting a celebration in honor of the flag of Peru. In this area there are lots of Inca ruins to visit. You may Google Inca ruins in Cusco for more information.

On Sunday we took a small private bus through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. The Sacred Valley is an area around Cusco that is astonishingly beautiful....green and fertile surrounded by snow capped mountains. Ollantaytambo is one of the most interesting small towns we have visited . Again you could Google the Inca Ruins at Ollintaytambo, they are fantastic. We spend a day here and then we return to Cusco and on to Machu Pichu one of the worlds most famous Inca Villages. We will take a train up to the small village near Machu Pichu then we will hike up to the ruins. Lil Smokey has his hiking shoes "on the ready".

The now famous world traveler, Lil Smokey, went to an Indiginous Quencha Market today and we attach a photo of him enjoying himself. Begin to take notice of the ladies hats in differnet places. The style of the hat indicates the tribe of people that they belong to. Tall hats indicate that they worshiip the volcano, short flatter hats indicate that they are more loyal to the gods of agriculture. I need to do some more research about the hats.

Some of the photo's attached are of the Sacred Valley.
